VAN NUYS - Four people received non-life-threatening injuries during a fire at a two-story motel in Van Nuys today, a city fire official said. Paramedics took three of the people to an area hospital, while the fourth was treated at the scene, according to Erik Scott of the Los Angeles City Fire Department. The fire was reported at 11:14 a.m. in the 6500 block of Sepulveda Boulevard, Scott said.
Rescuers arriving at the two-story, O-shaped motel reported flames on the second floor, he said. With 147 firefighters on the scene, the fire was put out at 12:30 p.m. Scott said 60 of the 120 rooms were occupied at the time of the fire, and flames damaged about 50 units. About 40 people were displaced as a result of the fire, Scott said.
